Greetings from Iceland!
We arrived on a lovely wet - yet surprisingly warm grey Icelandic morning at a cheery time of 7 am. Naturally we were VERY hungry as the highly anticipated 'sensual' plane food as we had so been looking forward to never materialized on our flight on Icelandic Air. Now, don't misunderstand, there WAS food - but it was for purchase.. that's right - you had to BUY your sensual plane food... on a 7 hour flight. To which we were like.. "Ah. Nay Nay."
So we starved.
Only good thing was, we only just had to wait to land, get through Customs, hit a washroom, find the ticket place for the bus to Reykjavik, buy a ticket, get to bus, wait for bus to leave, drive for 50 minutes to Reykjavik, transfer from the big bus into a smaller bus, wait for it leave, drop off other people at different hotel, drive to our apartment hotel, check-in, and then arrive in the room. Phew, no problem...........
Luckily!! Oh so luckily - I had asked for the early check in AND *sing song voice* it came with a lovely Icelandic breakfast!! (pictured below)
**Note: This is actually a picture of breakfast on day two since we inhaled the first one before I even thought of taking a picture.
It had brie cheese, bagels, toast with jams and cheese spreads, 'Skyr' (which is an Icelandic diary food which resembles a very thick yogurt), hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, dried salami and cured ham, along with a bit of chocolate. Very European. My favourite combo so far is the half melted brie on a hot toasted bagel covered with strawberry jam - how Europe can turn out ANY supermodels is beyond me!
